Privacy Policy

The short version

latelee has no accounts and no sign-up, and we do not collect, store, or sell any personal data. Everything you create in the app — your monthly picks, ratings, name, and photos — lives on your device and stays there unless you choose to share a shelf image yourself. The only thing the app reports back is anonymous usage statistics that cannot be linked to you — see “Anonymous usage analytics” below.

What stays on your device

The app stores the following locally, on your device only:

  • Your monthly shelves — the movies, shows, books, and albums you pick, plus any ratings and custom titles
  • The display name you optionally enter (any text you like)
  • Photos you pick as a shelf background (copied into the app’s private storage, and deleted when you replace them)
  • App settings, such as your chosen theme

None of this is uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no account to close and nothing for us to erase on a server, because we never had it.

What we don't do

  • No user accounts or profiles
  • No tracking of individual users — usage analytics are anonymous and aggregate (see below)
  • No advertising and no ad identifiers
  • No crash-reporting SDKs
  • No selling or sharing of personal data — we have none to sell

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand which features are actually used and make the app better, latelee uses Aptabase, an analytics service built for privacy. What this means in practice:

  • The app sends small, anonymous events — things like “app opened” or “shelf exported” — along with app version, operating system version, device model, and country
  • Never the contents of your shelves: not your picks, ratings, name, photos, or search terms
  • No device identifier and no advertising identifier is collected. Aptabase derives a temporary session identifier from a hash whose key is discarded every 24 hours, so sessions cannot be linked together across days, across apps, or back to you
  • Neither we nor Aptabase can identify you from this data — it exists only as aggregate statistics

Aptabase processes this data on our behalf as a data processor under the GDPR and retains it in aggregate form for up to 5 years. See the Aptabase privacy policy for details.

Search requests

When you search for a movie, show, book, or album, the app sends your search text to our server-side proxy (hosted on Cloudflare), which forwards it to the relevant media catalog and returns results. These requests:

  • contain only the search text and media type — no user identifier, no account, nothing tied to you
  • include your IP address as a technical necessity, like every internet request; we do not log it, and we keep no request logs at all
  • may be cached briefly (keyed by the search text, not by who searched) to make results faster

Cover artwork is loaded from the catalogs’ image servers. Standard network metadata (such as IP addresses) is processed transiently by Cloudflare and those providers to deliver the response, as with any website or app.

Photos

The app asks for photo access in exactly two situations:

  • Saving your shelf — add-only access, used to save the finished image to your photo library
  • Picking a background — when you choose a photo as your shelf background

Photos are never uploaded. A background photo you pick is copied into the app’s own storage on your device and removed when you replace it or delete the app.

Sharing your shelf

A shelf image leaves your device only when you export or share it yourself — to your photo library, Instagram, Snapchat, or wherever you send it. Shared images include a small “made with latelee” watermark. Once you share an image, it is subject to the privacy terms of wherever you shared it.

Third-party catalogs

Search results and artwork come from these catalogs, each with its own privacy policy:

We send these services nothing about you beyond the search request itself.

Children

latelee does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. There is nothing to collect.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR give you rights over personal data a company holds about you. latelee holds none — your data is on your device, under your control, and the usage analytics we hold are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you, so there is no personal data for us to look up, hand over, or erase. You can delete everything you made at any time by deleting the app. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Changes to this policy

If latelee ever changes in a way that affects privacy — for example, if a future feature introduces accounts or new analytics — this policy will be updated first, and the date at the top will change.
